ISO 50001 Certification

What is ISO 50001:2018

The 2018 version of ISO 50001 was released in August, and this release signals a withdrawal of the ISO 50001:2011. According to the International Accreditation Forum, the transitional deadline is three years from the publication date, and this means that in order to keep a certificate valid after this deadline, companies will need to make certification transitions within 3-year period.

" ISO 50001:2011. According to the International Accreditation Forum "

The major objectives and scope of this revision, as stated in the design specification that were released by the ISO Working Group, are:

1. The adoption of the ISO High Level Structure, which is common to all ISO standards, in order to ensure proper compatibility with other standards of ISO Management System

2. To ensure that certain concepts of the 2011 edition are still maintained. Some of these concepts include

  • The continued improvement in general energy performance
  • A focus to boost energy efficiency, energy use and energy consumption
  • To provide an incorporation of some of the necessary energy specification topics that are related to energy performance (such as energy measurement, energy analysis, energy evaluation, energy monitoring and energy data)

ISO 50001:2O18 applies the HLS, and this means that it will more or less follow the same structure as the other ISO standards, such as ISO 14001 and ISO 9001. This means that integration with other management systems is very possible.

The Benefits of ISO 50001:2018 Certification

Reduced Operating Costs: ISO certification means that you will be able to achieve a reduced (or at the very least, a managed) level of energy usage and consumption. This means thatoperating costs will be kept at a minimal. Energy costs have always been one of the most significant costs incurred companies, and the ability to cut down on this will definitely have a positive effect onyour company’s balance sheet

Also, by developing structured means of identifying some major energy indicators, you will also be able to reduce the overall costs of analyzing and reporting usage, which will also go on to reduce operating costs

The incorporation of more energy-efficient technology into the overall operations of your organization will definitely prove to be fruitful, especially when considering the goals that your organization has

By providing continual improvements to the energy-related processes of your organization, you will also be able to explore a wide array of new opportunities for your business

Environmental Impact: Greenhouse emissions have been one of the most challenging global issues for decades now thanks to their contributions to global warming and the degradation of the environment. With a more efficient use of energy, it will be possible to reduce the effects of these gases, which will definitely go on to bring benefits to the sustainability of the environment.

ISO certification usually involves the use of third-part auditors. By making use of these people, reports on energy usage will be deemed more reliable and effective by the market.
